The learning outcomes assessed in this assignment: 1) Collate information form a range of sources and across methodologies, relating to a specific topic.2)Assess the value of specific pieces of published research , paying particular attention to issues of reliability, transferability, validity and ethics. 3) Describe areas where research has produced specific implications for practice whether this be facilitative, or where research is lacking

4) Produce a literature review, in accordance with academic conventions, which offers an objective of the research around the topic in question.

To complete this task you will:

1. Choose and refine a research question

2. Create a search strategy

3. Complete a literature search

4. Review the literature you have found, sifting for relevance and credibility

5. Identify the themes across the literature you have found

6. Summarise your findings, producing a synthesis of the themes

7. Apply your findings to counselling practice

An effective literature search is both comprehensive and systematic and you need to state how you have achieved(or not achieved) this in your literature search.

The final part of the assignment requires you to say how your literature review contributes to the practice of counseling. For example, a literature review on the topic of Obsessive Comupusive order(OCD) reveals that Exposure and Response Prevention(ERP) is the treatment of choice for this disorder.
